Finding Balance in Creativity | August Edition

August 2026 Edition

Finding the medium-hard difficulty

Earlier this year I took some workout sessions with a personal trainer and something she said has stuck in my head and really changed my viewpoint on things. Whenever I was starting an exercise she would always remind me to check in on how I was feeling and ask myself how hard the exercise felt to me. The goal was to make sure I'm in a place where it's feels like it's medium-hard, not super hard where I burn out and cant complete the full exercise but also not easy to where its not challenging me to grow. Just right over the edge of challenging.

Its been months since those sessions but that analogy has helped me so much in my creative process as I get ready for my events in the fall. I've been reflecting on how far my skills have come as I create these new projects and I'm amazed at what I consider my medium-hard compared to even a year ago. Past Saron would have found all this work a lot more daunting than I do currently. But that's the beauty about finding that difficulty, it progresses as I challenge myself and accomplish more and more.

I'm still in the thick of creating everything that needs to be done for the fair in September and exhibition in October. The coloring book is coming along well and will hopefully be in hand by the end of this month or the beginning of September. My solo exhibition pieces are still in the early stages but once I get through the coloring book those will be the main priority. I've also been working on some small & medium sized original pieces in black & white and color to give me some variety from my big projects. Lots of art to do but I'm also making sure to enjoy as much of the summer as I can so I don't burn myself out.

Thanks for joining me this month! Looking forward to sharing more of my process with you guys next month :)

July Highlights

Here's the first sneak peak of the coloring book. This page is all about the Atlantic Mackerel. All the illustrations for the coloring book will be done in Procreate on my iPad and then the final layout of the book will be done using Adobe InDesign.

This is a sneak preview of one the pieces for my solo exhibit. I think Nautilus are some of the coolest ocean creatures out there so I'll take any chance I can to paint them. This piece along with the other ones will be done with gouache paint on black watercolor paper which I feel gives such a nice contrast to the vividness of gouache.

I'm so excited to share that two of my pieces were selected as part of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators 2026 Annual Members' Exhibition! The exhibit is virtual and on display now.

As promised last month, here's the finished koi fish I painted in watercolor. The buyer (my mom) was very happy with it :)

This collage piece came out even better than I expected. I've finally figured out a process that works for me when using my acrylic paint markers which resulted in this very cool sketchbook piece.

October 2026 Edition My new booth setup for Art on the Green 2026! Stepping into the Spotlight Happy fall! We're now into my busy season and I've got tons to share! Art on the Green took place this past saturday after being rescheduled due to the nor'easter that came through on the original date. Despite that, I ended up really enjoying the show. Personally I think I would have liked a better booth location, i.e. right in the middle of things, but I still had great traffic to my booth with...

September 2026 Edition End of Summer Musings I feel like August was simultaneously too short but also a really long month. I made really good progress with my projects despite work commitments and a family trip but I do wish there was more time so that I would be further along with some things. But I recognize life gets in the way sometimes and I have to give myself grace when that happens and just keep it moving. My biggest project update is that my coloring book is officially done! I got my...

July 2026 Edition POV My desk currently The Summer of Prepping We're halfway through the year and I feel like I've accomplished so much but there's still even more to get done. My summer will have a lot of prepping and creating since I have some exciting things happening in the fall. First thing is I will have a booth at Art on The Green on September 26! Its a bigger show than the first one I did this year and it takes place at a park I like to hang out and sketch in frequently so it feels...
